NUFF GLOBAL Newsletter #9

Dear NUFFGlobal friends, ambassadors and filmmakers

The 2008-09 NuffGlobal Film competition on Climate Changes will soon begin.

2008 has been a key year for our youth filmmaking project, both locally in Norway, and around the world. The winner films from 2007 have travelled to festivals and screenings all over the world. We are so grateful to all of you who are part of the NUFFGlobal effort and community.

As a reminder, you can find the list of the festivals and events, including the Bali conference, which have screened NuffGlobal films on www.Nuffglobal.net. the films can also be viewed on Youtube.

2007- 2008, The Climate Changes

Climate Change awareness is here to stay. The direction and the steps to be taken in reducing wasteful and self-destructing consumption have become clear. The science is no longer disputed, and organizations, institutions and businesses - of all sizes - deepen their research efforts into energy innovation and long term planetary sustainability.  Collaboration, innovation and creativity are on the world's agenda, as we collectively attempt to design a sustainable and empowering future. There are many local stories to tell about this new global scenario and NUFFGlobal will continue to make the voice of youth film heard. While media will often rotate in and out of focus because of its peak-cycles of interest our motto "Make a Movie that matters" means that we should stay focused on Climate Change and taking, and calling for, Action!

OPEN CALL for Film Ideas > Film COMPETI|TION
Keep Focus on Climate Change: What impact are the consequences and actions due to Climate Changes having on your daily life?

In a few months, we will open NUFFGlobal 2009 (NG09 for short). This platform of films will make an internet Open Call for film ideas. We will support a number of films in documentary, fiction and animation genres.

The Idea Competition in 2006-2007 generated over 200 applications for our Jury to select winnners from. This year we are hoping for even more applications, and to do so, we ask you - our network of ambassadors, filmmakers, mentors, educators, partners and friends - to join and support us during the various phases.

The NG e-book > Share, Link, Grow, Raise Funds.

NG is preparing an e-book of the NUFFGlobal process. This will be a PDF file that can be downloaded, printed or distributed digitally. We are including personal notes from the process, contributions, and angles from different countries, teams and roles. What do jury members have to say? What professional contributions nixed-in with youth film experiments?

We trust that the "NUFFGlobal Story" will be a testament te the diversity and complexity of this global filmmaking experiment. Thousands participated and shared skills, visions, experiences. An active network community emerged around the globe, and this e-book is the first place to celebrate and share the results.

The screenings in Tromsoe in June 2007 was inspirational. Nowhere more than in the Arctic circle is Climate Change visible. Yet so many of the NG network were not present in Tromsoe. We are interested in documenting in our e-book what reactions  and new viewpoints emerged from local screenings of NG films. The NUFFGlobal program continues to be screened in schools as well as in Youth and environmental festivals. Climate Change is inherently interdisciplinary, wouldn't you agree?

We welcome in the NG e-book project the voices, images, sounds and stories of all those who participated, supported or were linked to NUFFGlobal.  Were you affected by the screenings, has something happened in your community as a consequence of Climate Change awareness? We welcome you to join our effort and contribute your materials by email.

NUFFGlobal has a distinguished network of ambassadors. We are asking all the Ambassadors to contribute a short text about their NUFFGlobal experience. What questions become important for NG, now that Climate Chance has, so toe speak, broken the Ice? The e-book needs your inputs about your personal vision, your professional and artistic point of view. Don't forget that NUFFglobal films are made by young filmmakers under 30 years old. NG sponsorship is awarded to young storytellers with a film idea about local change in relation to global changes. The NG Ambassador network is the core of the mentor network available to NG films.

THE FUTURE OF NUFFGlobal

Our short term goal is that NUFFGlobal become a model platform which other organizations can refer to when launching global film and media awareness projects. If NUFFglobal made it, as a local-global youth project from a small arctic town, then you can too!  The e-book will serve as a project model, community start-up, as well as as a digital production scrapbook on NG07.

Our long term goal is for NG to become a Norwegian non-profit film organization.
Its mission will be to sustain a local-global link between youth media, film education resources, professional mentorship, and Climate Change awareness and action.

The launch is planned for June 2009 in Tromsoe.

FARWELL TO AHMED MASHHARAWI

Our friend, the young filmmaker Ahmed Mashharawi, participant and 2nd award winner at NUFFGlobal 2007, died on June 10th by a car accident. Please see a short farewell made by Nehal Afana at www.nuff.no.
